  • Sport therapy

In addition, CSIO provides athletes with life services and assistance with transitioning into and out of sport. CSIO also delivers programming and services to National and Provincial Sport Organizations and coaches to build a stronger sport system in Ontario.

CSIO at the Mattamy National Cycling Centre

CSIO will have a satellite training facility at the Mattamy National Cycling Centre, which will include strength and conditioning, and sport therapy space, as well as Sport Lab equipment. CSIO staff will also be onsite to provide Cycling Canada and its national team athletes and coaches with performance services support. Through the Ontario National Centre Strategy, CSIO will work closely with Cycling Canada to enhance the high performance daily training environment for national level athletes and coaches to prepare them for success on the international stage.

The performance services staff work with coaches to create an Integrated Support Team (IST). An IST is a multi-disciplinary team of sport science and sport medicine experts that support coaches and athletes in their goal of international podium success. ISTs can include experts in:

  • Exercise physiology
  • Mental performance
  • Biomechanics and performance analysis
  • Nutrition
  • Strength and conditioning
  • Sport medicine
  • Sport therapy (physiotherapy, athletic therapy, massage therapy and chiropractic)

The IST will work regularly with National Cycling Team athletes and coaches to ensure athletes receive world-class care and support for their training, recovery and competition programs. The goal of the IST is to ensure that Canadian cycling athletes are healthy, fit and psychologically ready for optimal performance.

CSIO will also work with provincial level athletes and coaches of the Ontario Cycling Association at the Mattamy National Cycling Centre through CSIO's High Performance Program, the Ontario High Performance Sport Initiative (OHPSI). The OHPSI program was developed to identify and support Ontario athletes who are capable of achieving international success on senior national teams in Olympic/Paralympic and Pan Am/Parapan Am Games sports.

Through these programs and services, CSIO will provide athletes and coaches with leadership, coaching support, sport science and sport medicine services, equipment and technology, competition and training camp enhancements, and facility access at the Mattamy National Cycling Centre This partnership is focused on the support of both able-bodied cyclists and para-cyclists. This approach is intimately tied and aligned to Own the Podium's vision and strategy to increase Canada's potential for future international podium performances.
